A handheld device

WIMS Handheld

WIMS Handheld is a secure mobile solution for drivers in your fleet. The system keeps synchronised with WIMS throughout the day ensuring that your drivers always have the most relevant and up-to-date information. Conversely drivers can keep WIMS informed of their movements and update the system's view of jobs in real-time*.

The WIMS Handheld system is capable of running on Windows mobile devices.

How it works

Your organisation will have a WIMS server, web server and a number of Windows handheld devices for your drivers. The web server may be the same physical computer as the WIMS server.

When a driver logs onto their WIMS Handheld system a request is automatically sent to the WIMS server asking if there is any work scheduled for them. If there is, then details of these jobs are sent over the Internet to the driver’s handheld device. These requests for work continue automatically throughout the day ensuring that any late additions, deletions or amendments to the driver's schedule are reflected on the handheld.

As the driver works their way through the schedule they record details relating to the job and customer signatures. They also have the option to cancel certain items so long as they provide a reason for doing so. As soon as the job has been completed or cancelled by the driver details are sent back to WIMS ensuring your office staff can see what’s happening in real-time.

Unfortunately there will be times when drivers are outside mobile network coverage and cannot communicate with the WIMS server. The WIMS server and handheld software deal with this by storing a transfer backlog which is processed as soon as a network connection is restored.

Communication between the WIMS server and handheld devices is done securely using a web service developed using the latest Microsoft technologies.
